Private Lessons
Private lessons are best for folks who want the most personal learning experience. We build a solid foundation of skills and knowledge while remaining flexible to your specific strengths, needs, goals and interests. Generally best for ages 5+, all levels of experience are welcome.
Approach
Private lessons are where it all began. I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for 9+ years. People take lessons for a variety of reasons. I have had students sign up who simply wanted to be able to play a few of their favorite songs for fun. Some folks want to build their confidence in order to perform for an audience. Others have taken lessons in order to achieve their goal of musical mastery. Whatever your goal, we will work together to reach it.

Unfortunately, I've heard many reports of students who gave up on lessons with other teachers because they were either not engaged, or felt that they had failed to meet their teacher's expectations. In order to build a love of music and learning, I prioritize communication, understanding and flexibility. Ultimately, I strive to establish a strong relationship with each student. I have yet to find a better catalyst for success than a student who trusts their teacher.

We start by discovering how to communicate through your instrument. As we become more comfortable making music, we learn how to understand its deeper concepts. We learn reading skills in order to expand and strengthen our musical abilities. During lessons, I provide guidance and leave plenty of room for your input and song suggestions. Think of it like a choose-your-own-adventure book.
Policies
-Your commitment is one weekly lesson per session. Sessions range from 8-10 weeks in length.
-Most students commit to an entire school year. Session-by-session is available.
-Students are allotted one "free-cancellation" per session.
-Extended breaks are allowed. There is a fee to keep your space reserved.
-All lessons are held at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais, MN.
-Lessons are 30 minutes long, at $35/week.
-Lessons on scheduled days off from school are optional.
-Lessons cancelled by the teacher are not charged. ​
